At The Cornerhouse, our people are the nursery. Here's a little about who we are, how we look after our team, and why so many of them stay for years.

We are immensely proud of our team at The Cornerhouse. Jo leads a happy, motivated team who are dedicated to creating an environment that matches the ethos of the nursery and ensures our high standards are maintained. We continually invest in our team and see them as part of our family, growing and learning as we continue on our journey. We're present at our nurseries and always on hand to guide and support our managers and the wider team whenever they need it. We're privileged to work with such great people.

Our people are the nursery

Behind every happy, settled child is a team who genuinely loves what they do. Dedication runs through everything at The Cornerhouse, from the practitioners in our rooms every day to the people making sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly. We don't think of our team as staff who happen to work here; we think of them as stakeholders in the business, because the atmosphere they create is what makes The Cornerhouse what it is.

It shows in our long service records. Several of our team have been with us for over two decades, and it's not unusual for practitioners to start as apprentices and grow into senior roles. That kind of continuity means real, lasting relationships, with the children, with each other, and with the families who trust us.

How we look after our team

A great working environment doesn't happen by accident. We invest in it deliberately, because looking after our team properly means they can focus on looking after the children.

A space that's actually ours
We reorganised the rooms upstairs to give our team a spacious, comfortable staff room where they can properly switch off on breaks.
Looked after, properly
A full stock of female care and sanitary products always available, free of charge: a small thing that makes a real difference day to day.
Celebrating together
Regular social events and celebrations throughout the year, because a team that celebrates together stays together.
Investing in growth
Real investment in training, qualifications and apprenticeships, plus the equipment and resources to do the job well.

Here from day one: Anita's story

When The Cornerhouse first opened its doors in the 1980s, Anita was part of it. She's been here ever since.

Anita has been part of The Cornerhouse from the very beginning. Today she's one of our nursery practitioners, and she's also our housekeeper, looking after the house itself so that the children and the team have a clean, safe and welcoming home from home every single day.
